When we started breeding labradors 14 years ago we had no idea what we were getting into. Our first breeding dog, Abbie, was a gift in many ways. She was the best momma dog on the planet, and taught us what whelping and raising pups is all about. We fretted in the middle of the night on many occasions. Our good friend and breeding mentor, Susie Wilcher, was always there with advice and assurance, and said to us on many occasion to "have faith". So when we fell in love with one of our puppies, it was only fitting to name her Faith. Faith is retired now and living the good life here on the farm with her mother, daughters and all the other dogs, cats and farm animals.
We also want to let our readers know that while our web address is marshland labradors, we are not in any way affiliated with the world renowned Marshland Labradors that bred, trained and titled many many fantastic dogs. When we picked our kennel name, we had no idea that there used to be a famous kennel with the same name. So out of respect for the retired kennel, our kennel name is Marsh Heaven.
Breeding quality pets and hunting partners is a once a year adventure for us. We only have one litter a year, to ensure that Xena has time rejuvinate and just be a dog; and the pups have our undivided attention.
We live in rural Suffolk VA on 20 acres. Our property backs up to the Great Dismal Swamp, which is a National Wildlife Refuge, so we get to enjoy the many other species of wildlife besides the menagerie we feed.
Our family (pets included!) enjoy nature and fresh, country-air living. Our puppies get well socialized and introduced to our large family of people and pets.
Please contact us with questions. We’re always happy to hear from fellow dog lovers!!
